Designed by the world-renowned structuralist architect Zaha Hadid, the Nanjing Poly Grand Theater is the most modern building in the city of Nanjing. In a bird’s view, it looks like a spacecraft, which figuratively means the youth should ride winds and waves and go forward. From its operation on Oct. 2, 2014 to October 2018, it held nearly 800 performance events for 850,000 audiences, with an average attendance of 85 percent. The 1,917-seat theater has 13 medium and high-end dressing rooms, and one VIP room.
Over the past four years, the Nanjing Poly Grand Theater has continuously introduced quality performances from all over the world. It has become the cultural name card of Nanjing by hosting top artists like Winton Marsalis, Richard Clayman and Mikhail Pletnev, world-renowned orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, the French Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre, and popular musicals such as The Sound of Music, The Bodyguard and Chicago.
